Nudist – a person who practices nudity for reasons of health or religion.
Naturist – a person who appreciates the beauty and benefits of nature.
So here we are at the end of year two and a chance to reflect on my second summer spent frolicking naked outdoors. One of the things I think I achieved this year was a further definition or refinement of what sorts of activities I enjoy doing.
After my experiences last summer I can recall how long the winter seemed to drag along. I can honestly never remember wanting a winter to end so much.
Spring finally did arrive and in late May I was able to make the 45 minute drive north with the intention of getting naked once again. As it turned out, that was to be the first of numerous beach trips that I was able to make this year.
Weather-wise there’s no way that it could have been a better summer. It was long, hot, dry, and hardly any mosquito problem whatsoever. I don’t think that we could’ve asked for anything better. The lake levels were even substantially down from last year which meant more beach area to work with and the opportunity to routinely wade across the channel between Patricia and Beaconia Beach. Very cool.
So there I would sit, book in hand just enjoying the afternoon. Once I’d had enough of reading I’d head off for a stroll which thanks to the lower water levels and ability to walk over to Beaconia made for a nice hike. The big tree with the “nude beach” sign painted on it was always my turnaround point.
Among my experimentation this year I took the plunge and joined a local clothing optional club to see if that would be worthwhile to be a part of going forward. Admittedly I had my doubts going in as I don’t tend to be that outgoing so the social aspects of it were somewhat questionable. I did give it a chance with several visits and did try the camping thing as well but only for 1 night unfortunately. As the summer wore on it sort of evolved into a place just to grab a shower on the way home from the beach. It’s a nice place but one of the more unfortunate aspects is that it’s going through a period of transition at the moment and it seems to be buried in politics and childish disagreements. As the summer moved into August and beyond I found myself not bothering with any further visits so at this stage I can‘t see myself joining again next spring, I don’t see it being worth the money but we’ll see how it goes, I may want to give it another chance come next spring.
So at the end of the day the question is whether or not I would classify myself as a nudist or not. I think up to a point yes and apparently only in certain situations. There are practical aspects that enter into it as well. I think the comfort zone I’ve found is relaxing on a beach in whatever fashion that may take (reading or walking currently).I don’t seem to be the sort of individual who feels it necessary to be nude at every opportunity possible and practical. I sleep naked because I find it very comfortable but I don’t routinely stroll around the house naked as so many others seem to do.
So the sunscreen is once again packed away along with all of the other beach paraphernalia and the wait for spring is on.
